Hundreds turned out Tuesday in Paramus in honor of the borough officer, who is on the mend and — by all accounts — anxious to return for work after being shot an hour or so before midnight Feb. 6 by a fleeing suspect who crashed his car, fired at her several times, then turned the gun on himself.

Morgan says her “hero,” backup Ryan Hayo, saved her life by getting to the scene — the on-ramp to the Garden State Parkway off Route 17 South — and firing several shots, several of which hit Michael Sean Carmody.

Police said Carmody then pointed his gun under his chin and fired. His parents removed him from life support days later.

Morgan was struck twice in the abdomen. And although it was touch-and-go at the start, she bounced back quickly.

“She’s doing well and getting stronger by the minute,” Katie Cofone of Paramus reported last night. Then, today, Morgan was released from Hackensack University Medical Center, as a huge turnout of officers and others — including babpipers — saluted her.

Anyone who was unable to attend Tuesday’s blood drive in Paramus or can’t make the River Vale event can still donate blood.
