Major 30th annual National Night Out events planned in Teaneck, elsewhere

​The 30th anniversary National Night Out Against Crime is Tuesday, as area towns hold a variety of events — including a massive “townwide block party” in Teaneck’s Votee Park.

The annual gatherings, which began as public warnings to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, are aimed at strengthening the bonds between police and the public.

To brighten the streets, organizers ask residents and business owners to keep their lights on during the events.

More than 37 million people are expected to participate in this year’s National Night Out in more than 15,325 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

TEANECK: A massive “townwide block party” is planned, with a host of events and attractions, from 5-9 p.m. in Votee Park.

On hand will be an assortment of law enforcement officers from the Teaneck Police Department and various other county, state, and federal agencies.

In addition to fire trucks, ambulances and other equipment, a medical helicopter will land in the park between 5:30-6 p.m.

Firefighters will also demonstrate how they use the “Jaws of Life” to cut victims from cars.

There will also be an Army rock-climbing wall, inflatable slide and obstacle courses, a train ride for kids, face painting, give-aways, music, food and refreshments.
