The girl’s mother took her to Hackensack University Medical Center after learning of the alleged relationship with 36-year-old Christian Calderon and workers there summoned authorities, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

Members of his Special Victims Unit and Lodi police arrested Calderon early this morning on aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment charges, he said.

“The abuse began several years ago and continued to the present, when the victim’s mother learned of it” and took her to HUMC yesterday, Molinelli said.

Medical center staff notified law enforcement and the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency, the prosecutor said.

A detective from the Special Victims Unit subsequently interviewed the girl, “at which time she described the abuse in greater detail,” Molinelli said.

Calderon is scheduled to be arraigned in Lodi Municipal Court tomorrow morning.
