Dora Aguirre, 53, was being held on $85,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with attempted theft, forgery and receiving stolen property following her arrest by Maywood detectives, Police Chief David Pegg said.

A representative of the Community Bank of Bergen County on West Pleasant Avenue notified Pegg’s department earlier this month ‘that they suspected a fraud on a deceased victim’s account,” the chief said.

The 66-year-old woman had died on Feb. 22, he said.

“Numerous checks were being deposited at various banks” from her account, Pegg said.

Detectives found nine checks at various banks deposited by Aguirre, also known as Dora Aguirrendon, he said.
