ANOTHER CVP EXCLUSIVE: Maywood police tomorrow will charge an ex-con with robbing a borough gas station at knifepoint, following his arrest by their Hackensack counterparts moments after a failed holdup over the weekend, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

Marcus Hunt, 25, confessed to taking $100 or so in cash from an attendant at the Shell station at the corner of Maywood Avenue and Passaic Street in Maywood on Friday, several police sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

(CVP was first with the story: Maywood gas station holdup may be solved with Hackensack arrest).

Hackensack police arrested Hunt thanks to a customer at the E&S station on Green Street in Hackensack, who chased him after a botched robbery, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The customer called the Hackensack police desk from his cellphone, describing Hunt and his car, and responding units spotted the vehicle on Lodi Street near South State Street, Salcedo said.

The station attendant later identified Hunt, of Hackensack, as the man who moments earlier pressed an unknown object against his stomach as he sat in his booth.

When he didn’t move fast enough, the attendant said, Hunt tried reaching into his pocket.

But the pump jockey said he began shouting, drawing attention, and the robber fled empty-handed — with the good Samaritan not far behind.

Hunt, whose rap sheet includes assault on a police officer and weapons charges, was charged with robbery and weapons possession. He’s been held on $100,000 bail pending additional charges from Maywood — and a likely bail increase — tomorrow.
