Brush fires erupt in Carlstadt, Kearny, Ridgefield

A brush fire in the Carlstadt Meadowlands off Paterson Plank Road was quickly knocked down early this evening, while firefighters continued battling another blaze that broke out in Kearny earlier today and spread to North Arlington.

A smaller fire was put down late this afternoon in Ridgefield, as well.

Among the engine companies fighting the blazes: Hasbrouck Heights, Wallington, Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Rutherford, Moonachie, Lodi, Lyndhurst, Garfield and Maywood.

All were just off the New Jersey Turnpike, making for a bizarre tableau — and in some cases, stopping traffic.

It’s the time of year for brush fires, although an official warning wasn’t issued today. Others already have broken out recently in New York State.
