The woman was crossing South Washington Avenue at New Bridge Road when she was struck around 8:50 p.m., Police Chief Michael Carr said this morning.

The car that hit her — possibly a Nissan Altima or similar vehicle — had its lights off as it traveled north on South Washington at the time, Carr said.

The driver kept going, turning eastbound onto East Englewood Avenue, a side street just north of the crash scene, he said.

The woman was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with head and arm injuries by Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance EMTs and paramedics from Holy Name Medical Center, the chief said.

“The vehicle involved has been described as dark-colored, possibly a Nissan Altima or similar-style vehicle, with possible damage to the front passenger side,” Carr said.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact the Bergenfield PD: (201) 387-4000
