Hackensack police responded to the intersection of Essex Street and Summit Avenue at approximately 12:49 a.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Responding officers found an adult male with serious injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle, Musella said. The driver had already fled the scene. The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to Musella.
The Hackensack Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, which responded alongside investigators from the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
