ITN North Jersey has already provided dozens of rides to residents throughout the area, offering seniors and those with mental or physical problems a new option for travel, said NorthJersey.com.

The group's organizer, John Boswick, said the company is hoping to increase its membership and the number of drivers, NorthJersey.com added.

One of 30 nationwide affiliates of ITN America, the company operates by using volunteer drivers and their private vehicles. Members pay a yearly fee for the service, said NorthJersey.com.

The grassroots programs is currently open to residents who are 65 or older or have special needs. Caregivers, in most cases, are allowed to ride with the member at no-charge, though spouses should become members, NorthJersey.com said.

Mayor Liz White said the ride service would offer seniors a way to get out to recreational events, as well as to doctor's appointments, added NorthJersey.com

Boosting the number of drivers is key to the program's success, which would like to expand to other areas, said NorthJersey.com.

Interested riders and prospective drivers can reach ITN North Jersey at 201-398-6685 or itnnorthjersey.org, said NorthJersey.com.
