Hackensack Mailman Adopts Adorable Shelter Puppy With College Sweetheart

HACKENSACK, N.J. — After years of making their long-distance relationship work, Wesley Shirley and Jaclyn Rapp finally moved into a Hackensack apartment together last December.

But still, things felt off.

"It definitely felt like something was missing," said Rapp, formerly of Ridgefield Park.

That changed last weekend when the couple brought home 9-week-old Cody, an Australian Shepherd-hound mix.

They found the pup through Southern Paws Inc. in Ramsey. They looked at pictures online and spoke to founder Ashley Gardenier until they found the perfect fit.

Enter Cody, formerly known as Thomas, who was rescued from a Louisiana shelter.

"How can you say no to that face?" said Shirley, a mailman formerly of Bridgeport, Conn.

"It was a done deal when we saw that face," Rapp added.
