Alcohol-Related Car Crashes Are Claiming More Lives In New Jersey

The number of drunken driving fatalities in New Jersey was up more than 25 percent in 2016, according to new statistics released by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

The report released Friday shows that 137 people in New Jersey died in alcohol-impaired crashes last year, up from 108 fatalities in 2015.

The only other states with bigger percentage increases are Alaska and Vermont, the report says.

The number across the U.S. is up 1.7 percent — from 10,320 to 10,497.
