A practice grenade found in the room of a retired World War II veteran at an assisted living facility in Cresskill on Thursday brought the Bergen County Bomb Squad. TSA Nabs Traveler With 'Knuckle Knife' At LaGuardia
TSA agents detained a traveler at LaGuardia Airport after spotting a trench knife in a carry-on bag, authorities said. Also known as a "knuckle knife," the blade "folds into the handle of the knuckles," Transportation Security Administration Spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said. The double-edged trench knife was invented for close-quarters combat during World War II, when fighting predominately happened in trenches. Residents of a South Jersey town were evacuated after a live explosive was found on the beach, authorities said. A Wildwood resident found the World War II-era projectile on the beach and brought it to a nearby home, police said. Bomb Squad Called After Grenade Turns Up In Bergen Goodwill Donations
A once-active hand grenade that turned up in the donations to a Goodwill store in South Hackensack caused a stir but turned out safe. The decommissioned World War II-era pineapple grenade apparently had been used as a paperweight, Deputy Police Chief Robert Kaiser said Tuesday. One of the workers at the Goodwill NYNJ Outlet Center on Huyler Street called police Monday night, he said. Did you remember to change your clock? Daylight Saving Time went into effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, marking its 100th year. Local officials also recommend checking and changing batteries on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Daylight Saving began during World War I and used again during World War II as an energy saving initiative. It didn't become a (mostly) nationwide event until the Uniform Time Act of 1966.
