Hackensack Gives Away 'Plastic-Free' Starter Kits HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Hackensack Cultural Arts Department has launched an initiative to help cut down on the city's plastic waste. As part of "Working To Be Plastic-Free," all city residents are encouraged to come down to 102 State Street and receive a plastic-free starter kit. The free starter kit includes: A reusable stainless steel water bottle; A tote bag for groceries; A reusable lunch bag; Pens made from bamboo that are 87% plastic free; Notepads. "Slam Dunk The Junk" is an initiative that incentivizes nonprofits to participate in a citywide cleanup day in return for a $300 donation to their organization via Hackensack's $60,000 Clean Communities Grant.
