Masseuse Offered Sex To Undercover Officer In Bloomfield: Police
A 41-year-old Queens, NY woman working as a masseuse in Essex County was arrested in an undercover prostitution sting, authorities said. Sujin Huh worked at Top Health Spa on Washington Street in Bloomfield, when she propositioned an undercover officer for sex on Thursday, Aug. 24, Bloomfield Police Chief George Ricci said. "This was brought to the department’s attention by a resident concerned with this quality of life issue," Ricci said. Bloomfield Triathlete Struck By Car Sees Community Support
Mary Truer was out riding her bicycle when she was hit by a car. Now people in Essex County are coming together to assist her and her family. Truer, a triathlete, will need surgery, said her friend Jonathan Tabuzo, a Bloomfield native, who organized a GoFundMe fundraiser. A 47-year-old police detective from the Jersey Shore was required to sell handguns due to a restraining order, authorities said. Two men have been charged with murder and one with various related offenses in last month's shooting death of a 29-year-old Newark man, authorities said. Jamaal Mahorn, 37, and Buddy Randolph, 40, both of East Orange, were arrested in the death of Khalif Ligon, 29, on Sept. 7, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said. A pair of car burglars caught mid-act by officers were found with a loaded magazine and handgun, police in Essex County said. Charles Pugsley, 23, of Newark, and Daniel Gomez, 26, of the Bronx, were standing next to an open car door outside of a Verona house around 5 a.m. Thursday, June 30 when the officers pulled up, Verona police said. North Jersey Man Missing For Week+ Might Be Wearing Kilt, Family Says
Police in Essex County are seeking the public's help in locating a man missing for more than a week. George Kovacs, who is known to wear a kilt, left his home in Bloomfield on June 8 around 4:30 p.m. and hasn't been heard from or seen since, local police said citing his family. A 21-year-old man was gunned down Monday in Irvington. Khaleel Powell was shot and killed on the 400 block of Stuyvesant Avenue, and pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. A New Jersey woman was beaten by her son-in-law over the course of two days before her body was found, NJ.com reports citing police papers. James J. Authorities Probe Bomb Threat At Newark High School
Police and fire departments rushed to a high school in Newark Tuesday morning, where a bomb threat was allegedly called in, authorities said. The threat was made at Science Park High School (260 Norfolk St.) just after 11 a.m., a Newark Dept. of Public Safety spokesperson told Daily Voice. A 60-year-old man was sentenced to 35 years in New Jersey State Prison for the sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl, authorities announced. Jose Santana, 60, of Belleville, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Martin Cronin. He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he will be eligible for parole. Authorities ID Man Shot Dead In East Orange
Authorities have identified a man who was shot dead in East Orange last weekend. Troy Traynham, 59, was shot outside his Chestnut Street apartment on Saturday, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi. Traynham was taken to University Hospital where he died. No arrests have been made in the deadly shooting. The Union County Jail will be closing its Elizabeth facility and transferring its inmates to the Essex County Jail in Newark -- saving the county more than $103 million. Filming for "The Sopranos" prequel starring Michael Gandolfini has resumed in Essex County. The production company for "The Many Saints of Newark" was granted permits to film in Bloomfield, closing several streets that have been transformed into a snowy, 1960s day. Longtime Turtle Back Zoo Volunteer From Belleville Honored
A plaque has been installed at Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange honoring a longtime volunteer docent who died early this year. Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo was on hand Friday to dedicate the plaque to John P. Doeffinger, a lifelong resident of Belleville. A dead body was found in Newark Saturday, authorities said. The body was discovered on West Runyon Street around noon, Chief Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly said.
