Girl, 8, Struck By Car In Newark: Police An 8-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle in Newark on the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 11, authorities said. At 3:03 p.m., police responded to Broadway and 2nd Avenue and transported the girl to University Hospital for treatment, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The child is in stable condition, Fragé said. The driver remained at the scene and the incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.

Street Closures Announced For Newark North Ward Tree-Lighting Ceremony A parade and tree lighting is scheduled in Newark's North Ward Friday, police said.  The events, sponsored by North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos, will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., although streets will be closed down several hours before the festivities begin.  The parade  will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Verona and Summer avenues. The parade route will travel westbound on Verona Avenue to Mt. Prospect Avenue, turning left onto Mt. Prospect Avenue and ending at Common Thread Park, located at Mt. Prospect Avenue and Mt.
