Tonight: Fourth of July fireworks in Englewood

Budget cuts have forced towns all over New Jersey to eliminate Fourth of July celebrations, but Englewood Mayor Frank Huttle III was determined not to disappoint area merchants and residents.

So he got sponsorships from throughout town, and tonight the show begins at 7:30 on the front lawn of Dwight Morrow High School.

“I believe that the Englewood July 4th Fireworks show, though entertaining and spectacular, serves a larger purpose,” Huttle said. “It allows us, the residents of Englewood, to come together and celebrate our independence and patriotic spirit as one community.

“Many have worked very hard to bring together the resources necessary to accomplish this event. I thank our generous sponsors led by Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and joined by bergenPAC, Route 4 West Diner, Englewood Economic Development Corporation, Englewood One, Treeco Shoprite, North Jersey Community Bank, Nisi and Solaia restaurants, our City Manager, and volunteers.”

At a time when belts are being tightened everywhere, town officials will need to be more innovative and creative, and local businesses are going to have to become more involved.

Huttle is providing just one example of an annual tradition maintained at no cost to the town. For more information, you can check out yet another example: Englewood One Community.
