Oakland Planning Board Approves Strip Mall At Former Burger King Site
The Oakland Planning Board recently approved a strip mall for the site of the shuttered Burger King on Ramapo Valley Road. The building on the 1.6-acre property will be demolished and construction on the new strip mall is expected to begin this summer, NorthJersey.com reports. The site has been vacant since Burger King relocated to 186 Ramapo Valley Road nearly 10 years ago. No tenants have been secured yet, the report says. 7-Alarm Fire Rips Through Somerset County Downtown District
A seven-alarm fire tore through downtown Bound Brook Sunday night. The blaze broke out just before 8 p.m. in an unoccupied pair of buildings under construction on East Main Street near Mountain Avenue in the commercial district. Firefighters continued to douse hot spots into Monday morning. Several streets were closed and some residents remained without power morning, prompting a two-hour school delay. Dos Toros Taqueria is on its way to Florham Park. Construction on the Mexican restaurant is under way at the former site of Qdoba on Columbia Turnpike, Borough Building and Construction Administrator Kevin Guilfoyle confirmed. The Valley Hospital is one step closer to its new Paramus campus. The borough's Planning Board on Thursday night unanimously approved the seven-story, 362-bed plan for a 40-acre parcel near Winters Avenue, NorthJersey.com reports. Dump Truck Tips In Old Tappan
A dump truck keeled over Wednesday afternoon in Old Tappan, dumping a load of dirt at a work site. The driver reportedly was OK after the crash on Orangeburg Road near Dearborn Drive, barely a mile from the Rockland County border. Contractors have been dumping truckloads of fill to level off a residential backyard for nearly a year, neighbors said.

A brand new 300,000-square-foot tower will be going up at Hackensack University Medical Center. The Hackensack Planning Board unanimously approved construction of the tower along Second Street between Essex and Atlantic streets -- east of the main hospital building, officials said. Arrest Made After North Jersey Construction Worker Spots His Stolen Trailer On Local Job Site
A North Jersey construction could soon be reunited with his detachable trailer stolen last year after he spotted it being used by another company in Ridgewood, authorities said. Carlos Molina, 57 of North Bergen, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property following an investigation, Ridgewood police said. The victim on Oct. 21 told police he believed his black, United trailer -- stolen last year out of Paramus -- was parked at a Grove Street construction site, authorities said. Lands End will open its first Bergen County location at Bergen Town Center. There is no timetable of when the American clothing company will open at the Paramus mall.
