Croton-On-Hudson A&P Closing, Reopening As Foodtown CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- After 156 years, A&P grocery stores are in the process of closing down their businesses, among them the location on Albany Post Road in Croton-On-Hudson. But shoppers should have no fear, Foodtown is on its way. And soon. The A&P will shutter its doors at 2005 Albany Post Rd. on Nov. 9 for a 24-hour renovation, before reopening on Nov. 10 as Foodtown. Union Vale Man Charged With DWI After Route 82 Crash UNION VALE, N.Y. -- New York State Police officers investigating damaged property on State Route 82 made a discovery: an intoxicated Union Vale man in a crashed vehicle. Officers from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested Anthony J. Giannini for Driving While Intoxicated on Oct. 28 on State Route 82 in Verbank. The 28-year-old Union Vale resident’s breath sample topped out with a blood alcohol content of .14 percent. Giannini, 28, was booked on the misdemeanor charge and ordered to appear on Nov. 18 in Union Vale Court.

Barfield, an outfielder with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays, was born Oct. 29, 1959. After playing the first nine seasons of his 12-year-career with the Blue Jays, Toronto traded Barfield in 1989 to the Yankees.  The Joliet, Ill., native hit 241 career home runs, including a league-high 40 dingers in 1986. He twice won a Gold Glove Award and was an All-Star with the Blue Jays. He closed out his baseball career in 1993 with the Yomiuri Giants.

The junior from Rome, Italy, went an unblemished 8-0 during the regular season as the No. 1 singles player for the Clippers. New Canaan All Sports Booster Club Begins Fundraising Effort NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan High School boasts one of the area’s most-prolific sports programs, but the Rams could use the community’s help. The NC Rams New Canaan All Sports Booster Club opened its 2015-16 fundraising campaign Oct. 4 seeking money to help the school’s 31 varsity, 19 junior varsity and 10 freshman male and female teams.
