NOT Cool: 10,000+ Lakewood Residents Without Power More than 10,000 home owners and businesses in Lakewood were reported to be without electricity about 6:30 p.m., authorities said.  Utility company officials could not immediately say why the power went out in Ocean County, but there was speculation that the region's high demand for electricity due to the heat wave may have been a contributing factor. Boom: Manhole Explosions Rock Asbury Park, Irvington Business owners and downtown residents of Asbury Park were shaken up by a pair of manhole explosions Thursday morning. No one was injured but at least 400 customers lost electricity after two manholes exploded about 9 a.m., authorities said.
