Seaside Heights Voters Reject Merger With Toms River School District: Unofficial Results Seaside Heights voters rejected a plan to merge the island borough's school district with the Toms River Regional School District. According to unofficial results, 232 voters in Seaside Heights voted "no" on the merger, while 167 voters said "yes" in the referendum on Tuesday, Apr. 16. The plan would have eventually closed the Seaside district's only school Hugh J. Boyd, Jr. Elementary School. On Friday, March 8, Acting New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner Kevin Dehmer approved Seaside Heights merging with the Toms River Regional school district. Agents began investigating Joseph J. Punderson, 31, of Island Heights after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. His wife reported Matt Conway, 67, missing around 4 p.m. Tuesday, they said. The U.S. Coast Guard released security camera photos of Conway shortly before he left a dock on the Toms River in a silver rowboat that morning.
