Excessive Heat Watch Issued For Most Of DMV Region With Temperatures Approaching 100 Degrees
Forecasters are cautioning that oppressive heat may be headed to the DMV region with temperatures possibly approaching 100 degrees in the area. The National Weather Service announced that an Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for Saturday, June 20 with possible heat index values touching 105 to 110 degrees in certain parts of DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Maryland Reports First Malaria Case Not Tied To Travel In Decades
The Maryland Department of Health has confirmed a positive case of locally acquired malaria in a resident who lives in the National Capital Region. On Friday, Aug. 18, officials confirmed that a person has been hospitalized and is in recovery - while stressing that they did not recently travel outside of the US or other states where malaria is more prevalent. Health officials did not specify the exact location of the malaria case. Code Red: Some Masking Up After Air Quality Alerts Issued For All Of MD, Northern VA
Some residents in the DMV region are breaking their N95 masks out as the air quality throughout the region continues to deteriorate. A "Code Red" alert has been issued in the area as smoke from the Canadian wildfires continues to infiltrate the East Coast, causing eye-watering, hazy, and potentially dangerous conditions.
