A young Long Island man left a starving dog locked in a basement with little to eat, authorities said Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Isaiah Thomas, 20, of Wheatley Heights, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 15 on two animal cruelty charges, the Suffolk County SPCA said.
Thomas owned a 4-year-old Cane Corso named Apollo, then confined the dog to a basement secured by a metal door that was held closed by three vehicle tires, investigators said.

A two-day burglary spree cut through Virginia before police say they caught up with the woman behind it.
Shanice Shentel Yates, 34, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 11, following a string of break-ins and an attempted burglary reported along Larkin Court and Wayside Drive in Dumfries, Prince William County Police announced on Monday, Sept. 14.
The spree began sometime between noon on Monday, Sept. 7 and 8:40 a.m. the following morning at the Urgent Medical Care Center on Wayside Drive, according to investigators.
