ROTC Cadet, 21, Dies During Fort Knox Training: 'Dedicated, Promising Leader'
A 21-year-old Army cadet from New Jersey died during a land navigation exercise at Fort Knox, officials from the US Army confirmed.
Cadet Neil Edara, of Ridgewood (Bergen County), became unresponsive on Thursday, July 24, while attending Cadet Summer Training with the 9th Regiment, Advanced Camp.
He was airlifted to the University of Louisville, where he was later pronounced dead.
Edara was a student at Rutgers University and had joined ROTC in September 2021, officials said.

A 40-year-old Miami Beach man was arrested and charged with murder after an eight-hour SWAT standoff over the weekend after his New Jersey mother's body was found nearly decapitated in a dumpster, police said.
Anthony Caruso, 40, was arrested on Sunday, July 20, following the standoff at his apartment on Washington Avenue, according to a criminal complaint filed by Miami Beach Police.

Tributes are pouring in for Robert Montgomery, a 61-year-old New Jersey resident killed on Wednesday, July 16, when he was struck by lightning while volunteering at an archery event.
Montgomery, of Cinnaminson, worked as an engineer and was passionate about his career, according to his obituary from the Givnish Funeral Home website.

Mass Casualty: Lightning Strike At NJ Archery Range Kills 1 Man, Injures 14 Others, Police Say
A man was killed and 14 others were injured, including a child, after a lightning strike at a New Jersey archery range Wednesday evening, July 16, police said.
The incident happened at 7:13 p.m. at Black Knight Bowbenders, an outdoor range on Perrineville Road in Jackson Township, according to Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew Kunz.
Police were notified that multiple people had been struck by lightning, with CPR being performed on one individual, Kunz said.
