Police in Western Massachusetts are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that led a man dead outside an area church.
A motorist struck the pedestrian, only described by police as “an adult man” at approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, March 25 near the intersection of Chestnut and Stafford streets near the Sacred Heart Church, investigators said.
The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Police said the man was found in the middle of the road and transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead. No descriptive information has been provided about the driver or his vehicle.
The hit-and-run remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Department’s Traffic Unit. Anyone with information has been asked to contact investigators by calling (413) 787-6333 or by sending the word “SOLVE” plus the tip through text to CRIMES (274637).
