Michael Belous, 24, was arrested after his mom Elena Vainer, 51, of Reading, was found barely breathing and beaten shortly before 1 a.m. at his condo on Middlesex Street on July 17, 2023, the Middlesex District Attorney said. 19-Year-Old Accused Of Killing Teen At Lowell Party Nabbed In California A 19-year-old Lowell man has been arrested in California and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of another teen during a party in Lowell. Dustin Defrietas, 19, was arrested by police in Stockton, California, after Sakdara Khoeun, also 19, was shot and killed at a party at a home on Westford Street in Lowell on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Khoeun died later that same day, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said in a statement. An autopsy later conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner revealed the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Body Found In Lowell Canal; Police Attempting To ID Them A body was pulled from the water of a Lowell canal Thursday morning, Sept. 7, but investigators are not sure who it is or how it got there.  Officers were called to 110 Canal Street around 11 a.m. after a pedestrian spotted the body floating in the water, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said.   The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how the person died. The body did not show any obvious signs of trauma, authorities said.  Lowell police will investigate the person's identity.

Lowell Man Shot, Killed His Wife On Christmas Before Killing Himself: DA A 60-year-old Lowell man killed his wife and then himself on Christmas, authorities confirmed on Tuesday, Dec. 27.  Jose Santiago, 60, is believed to have shot his wife, Rosa Santiago, 55, at their home on Beacon Street just after 1:30 p.m., the Middlesex District Attorney said.  The Chief Medical Examiner performed autopsies on both bodies and determined how and the order in which they died.  Lowell police and the District Attorney's Office are investigating the case.

Lowell Police reported the break in the area of Moody Street and Cabot Street near Father Morrissette Boulevard around 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, according to their Twitter.  One video posted to Facebook showed the water gushing across Race Street and covering the tires of vehicles. Lowell Woman, 64, Found Stabbed To Death Inside Home; Police Investigating Authorities in Lowell are investigating after a 64-year-old woman was found dead inside her home, the Middlesex District Attorney's office said. Lowell Police responded to Linda Gilbert's home on Loring Street around 11:19 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, the office reports. Upon arrival, officers found Gilbert unresponsive and with apparent trauma. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined Gilbert had died from multiple stabbed wounds.
