Angela Foley is charged with violating a person's civil rights and multiple counts of destruction of property from the incident over the weekend, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. A judge released Foley on her own recognizance but ordered her to stay at least 20 yards away from her neighbor. Prosecutors had asked for a mental health evaluation, GPS monitoring, and a $500 bail.

Police said Foley smashed out her neighbor's window while screaming racial slurs. She also glued nails to paint stirrers and put them behind her neighbor's car tires, which destroyed them. It's unclear what started the argument between the two.

“No one who supports fair and just communities can ignore or accept these types of hate-based crimes,"  Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. "They corrode the very underpinnings of a civil society. Whether they’re committed by a single individual or an organized group, these actions are a direct assault on our democratic principles."
