Thornton was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of 215 Norwell Street in Dorchester around just after 12 p.m. on Monday, August 1, Boston Police said.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (617) 343-4470.
