This is the second recent sighting of a humpback whale in the area. Last week, a whale breached the water near Plymouth and landed on the bow of a 19-foot-boat, NBC Boston said.
Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said last week three young humpback whales have been feeding off Manomet Point and Whitehorse Beach for the past two weeks, the news station reported.
This presents an opportunity for people to see some of the biggest animals on the planet in their natural habitat, but it also creates problems.
Bob Glenn of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries said people must be careful around the animals for their own safety and the whales' safety.
"We understand these are majestic animals, and the public would like to view them," he told NBC Boston. "That's fine, but they need to do that from a safe distance."
