Investigators ID Causes Of Fatal Fires In Newton, Lowell; Victims ID'd Fire investigators believe they've identified the culprit behind two fatal fires in Newton and Lowell earlier this month — smoking materials.  The first fire was reported on Farmland Road in Lowell on March 16. Investigators say the blaze began in the back left corner of the second floor near a bed.  Charles Bearden, 56, died in the blaze, and an unidentified person was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.    Lowell Fire Chief Phillip A.J. Newton Man Dies Days After House Fire; Broken Lamp Likely To Blame For Blaze A Newton man who was trapped in a Newton house fire on Dec. 13 has died of his injuries, authorities announced on Tuesday, Dec. 26.  The blaze began about 10 a.m. at 125 Allen Ave. One of the people inside escaped the conflagration, but the older man — who is in his 70s — was left trapped inside.
