Rosie Wilson was in the backseat of her mom's SUV when the car veered into oncoming traffic on Main Street just after 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 22. The crash sent five people to the hospital, including two paramedics, the patient they were transporting, and Rosie's mom, Jenna Wilson. But Rosie took the brunt of the punishment, a GoFundMe created to pay for her medical bills said.
Rosie sustained life-threating injuries and was med-flighted to (Massachusetts General Hospital) in Boston. Rosie has already gone through 3 lengthy surgeries and has a long road ahead to recovery. In addition to medical expenses Rosie's family will be off work for an extended period of time through her recovery.
Emma Daniels, the creator of the fundraiser, added in a Saturday, March 2, update that Rosie, a second-grade student at H. Olive Day School in Norfolk, was in a medically induced coma as doctors weighed their options to mend a broken vertebrae.
Daniels reiterated that the fundraiser was only for Rosie's care after news broke that her mother may have been drunk at the time of the crash. She said several people had asked to have their donations returned.
"This fundraiser is not for anything else but Rosie’s recovery," Daniels wrote in an update. "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on this story. What I do know is that people have come together for this little girl. Please don’t let anything change that."
The GoFundMe has raised more than $22,000 of its $25,000 goal as of Monday morning, March 4.
Jenna Wilson was charged with:
- OUI-liquor or .08 percent and serious injury and negligence (two counts)
- Child endangerment while OUI
- Negligent operation of motor vehicle
- Marked lane violation
- Reckless endangerment of a child
