Man Who Terrorized Taxi Drivers During Short-Lived Robbery Spree In Maryland Sentenced
The man who targeted and terrorized taxi and rideshare drivers in Maryland on multiple occasions will have plenty of time to reconsider his actions behind bars.
Omar Hernandez, 21, of Hyattsville, pleaded guilty this week to robbing a taxi or rideshare driver in three separate incidents, and has been sentenced to 35 years in prison with all but 10 years suspended, according to the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office.
The robberies were reported between Dec. 12, 2022, and Jan. 3, 2023, in the Hyattsville area.

An 18-year-old was arrested for a series of carjackings in Montgomery County dating back to last November, authorities announced on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Joseph De-La-Paz was arrested on Friday, Jan. 5 and charged with multiple counts of armed carjacking, armed robbery, assault, theft, and weapons offenses, Montgomery County Police said.

An investigation has been launched in Southern Maryland after a man was carjacked and robbed at gunpoint at an area park, according to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, deputies were called to Nicolet Park in Lexington Park, where a man reported that he had just been carjacked.
