Hyattsville resident Loren Jones, 15, was killed in a crash on May 7 that also took the life of 74-year-old Dorothy Skinner and left several others with serious injuries.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, troopers responded to the area of outer loop Interstate 495 at exit 27 (Interstate 95) for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Ford, operated by Skinner, was traveling westbound on I-495 when for unknown reasons, left the roadway and crashed into the wooded area in the area.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Skinner was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Following her death, Jones' grandmother started a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of her family, which raised thousands of dollars in just days as the community continues to rally behind them.

"Loren was a very outgoing, jubilant, and artistic person," Pamela Savage said. "She was known for her kindness and always having a smile on her face."

Those interested in assisting the family to give Jones a proper burial can do so here.
