New Forecast: Increased Snowfall Totals Expected, Arctic Temps To Follow Northeast Storm
Newly-released forecast maps show parts of the region could see up to six inches of snow in the end-of-week storm. Intermittent snow is expected to begin between 4 and 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, with the heaviest amounts falling in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said. Snow will fall at about 0.5 inches per hour and will taper by the evening, with temps in the upper 20s and low 30s, the NWS said. Forecasters are tracking a mid-week storm set to blast the mid-Atlantic with heavy rain, wind, and in some parts, sleet. Monday, Jan. 8 will be mostly sunny with a high near 45 while Tuesday, Jan. 9 will be cloudy with a high closer to 60, according to the National Weather Service. Northern Maryland could see rain mixed with snow after 10 a.m. Tuesday. A sex trafficker in Anne Arundel County will have years to ponder his horrendous mistakes after being sentenced to nearly two decades in prison, federal authorities announced. New HOV rules took effect on Monday on the new I-66 Express Lanes in Northern Virginia. A 21-year-old hospital worker in northern Virginia was arrested on accusations he twice fondled a patient's genitals, authorities announced. Hektor Fernando Alvarez was hired by Metropolitan Healthcare Services (MHS), a company contracted by Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, at the time of the assaults, Fairfax County police said.
