Karate Instructor Charged With Rape, Perverted Practices In Anne Arundel County: Police

Police say that a 71-year-old Maryland karate instructor got too physical with one of his students and is accused of sexual abuse at his makeshift dojo in Anne Arundel County.

Harry Craig Conaway is facing 28 criminal charges for alleged repeated incidents of sexual abuse over several months while he was acting as a sensei to a child, according to an Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesperson.

It is alleged that Conaway sexually abused his victim in a storage shed he converted to a dojo outside his Hanover home, where he held private karate lessons.

On Monday, July 17, the department announced that Conaway had been arrested and charged with 28 crimes, including:

  • Sex offense of a minor;
  • Rape;
  • Multiple sex offense charges;
  • Second-degree assault;
  • Perverted practice;
  • Private place prurient intent.

The investigation is ongoing, though police say that they do not believe there were other victims. However, anyone with additional information has been asked to contact the department by calling (410) 222-4733.
