9 Westchester Beaches Closed Through Weekend Over Bacteria Concerns
Nearly a dozen beaches across Westchester County have been closed through the weekend after more than 3 inches of rain raised concerns about bacterial contamination in the water.
The Westchester County Department of Health announced the closures on Friday, Aug. 21, after 3.28 inches of rain fell over the previous 24 hours, according to county officials.
The affected beaches are in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, and Rye:

A Massachusetts woman will spend more than six years in federal prison after admitting to bringing two homemade firebombs and a knife to Washington, D.C., in an attempt to kill then-Treasury secretary nominee Scott Bessent, federal authorities said.
Ryan Michael English, 26, of South Deerfield, previously pleaded guilty to two federal weapons charges. A judge sentenced English to 73 months in prison on Tuesday, Aug. 18, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced. English must also serve three years of supervised release.

Suspect In Stabbing Death Of Elderly Man In Albany Admits To Crime: Authorities
A Capital Region woman has admitted to stabbing an elderly man to death two days before Christmas in 2023, authorities said.
Vanesia Brundage, 42, of Albany, pleaded guilty Friday, Aug. 7 to first-degree manslaughter in the death of Charles Gaddy Jr., the Albany County District Attorney’s office said. She faces 20 years in prison and five years on probation, prosecutors said.
Gaddy, 74, was stabbed to death on North Lake Avenue on Dec. 23, 2023, around 12:30 p.m., police said. When first responders arrived, Gaddy was treated on scene but pronounced dead, according to authorities.
