Barnegat native Jay Groome was among five players punished under MLB's sports betting rules and policies, the league said in a news release on Tuesday, June 4. Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Anthony Varvaro died in a wrong-way 9/11 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said.
