‘We Lost A Hero’: Mass State Trooper Killed In Head-On Crash Was Stopping Wrong-Way Driver Massachusetts State Trooper Kevin Trainor had just finished a long shift when the call came in just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, May 6: A Jeep was speeding the wrong way down Route 1 in Lynnfield. The 30-year-old trooper was close to where the SUV was spotted, so he raced to the area to try to stop it. Two minutes later, the Jeep slammed into his patrol cruiser. Hernan Marrero, 50, of Roslindale, who was driving the Jeep, died at the scene. Paramedics rushed Trainor to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
