41-Year-Old In New England Dies From Serious Mosquito Virus Eastern Equine Encephalitis
One person has died and two others in the Northeast have been infected this summer with a rare but serious mosquito-borne disease. Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is caused by a virus spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito, similar to the West Nile virus. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, an adult from the town of Hampstead, in southeastern New Hampshire who tested positive for EEE died, the New Hampshire Department of Public Health announced. Mosquitos in Connecticut have tested positive for a rare, but potentially dangerous illness that could impact the brain, the state Department of Health announced. First Mosquito Pool Of Season Tests Positive For West Nile Virus In Connecticut
The first pool of mosquitos trapped by the State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program (MMP) has tested positive for West Nile Virus, officials announced. According to the MMP, mosquitoes trapped in Milford on Monday, June 21 tested positive for the virus, marking the first confirmed case of West Nile found in Connecticut this summer.
