Police received a report in New Haven County that a person saw a man cutting a catalytic converter out of a vehicle in their driveway on Baker Street in Milford at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, according to the Milford Police Department.

Responding officers saw a man on a bicycle, later identified as Anthony Machia, fleeing the scene with a catalytic converter under his arm, police said.

He then left the bicycle behind and ran away from police into an area near the athletic fields at Jonathan Law High School, authorities said.

Police surrounded the area and arrested Machia after he was tracked down by Seymour Police K9 Argus, police reported.

Milford police said Machia was found in possession of the following:

  • A small axe
  • Saw blades
  • Flashlights
  • An LED headlamp

He was charged with fourth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief, police reported.
