System Brewing Off Atlantic Coast Could Become Tropical Storm In Days: What To Know Now A new system that could strengthen into a named tropical storm in days is on a path toward the East Coast. According to the National Hurricane Center, "the system could gradually acquire subtropical or tropical characteristics thereafter over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, and a subtropical or tropical depression or storm could form early next week while the system moves generally northwestward toward the coast."
