A Connecticut man will spend more than 16 years behind bars for a 2021 shooting in Middletown's Traverse Square that left a man seriously wounded, authorities said.
Antwan Rufus, 36, of Middletown, was sentenced to 16 ½ years in prison, followed by 10 ½ years of special parole, after being convicted of multiple charges, including assault and unlawful possession of a firearm, Middlesex State’s Attorney Michael A. Gailor announced Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Anfernee D. Dancy, who has a lengthy criminal history, was caught after leading Waterbury Police on a brief chase. Officers tried to stop Dancy’s SUV, but he reversed into one of their cruisers and tried to run away, but didn’t get far, the U.S. Attorney for Connecticut said.

A late-night traffic stop in Connecticut led to the arrest of a local man after police found a stolen firearm, ammunition, and marijuana packaged for sale in his vehicle, police said.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, Bristol officers were conducting motor vehicle enforcement on Pine Street when police stopped Shawn Rodriguez, of Bristol, for a headlight violation, Lt. A 14-year-old Trumbull teen was robbed at gunpoint on New Year's Eve while riding his dirt bike on the Rails to Trails path, authorities said.
Giovanni DeJesus, 19, of Bridgeport, was arrested shortly after the incident, recovering the stolen bike and an illegal firearm, Bridgeport police said.
The robbery occurred around 5 p.m. near the pump station between White Plains Road and Quarry Road. Police say DeJesus, part of a group on dirt bikes, approached the 14-year-old victim, pointed a handgun at him, and ordered him off the bike before speeding off into Bridgeport.
