A Dutchess County man who admitted murdering a Connecticut taxi driver whose body was later found in a Hudson Valley reservoir will spend at least two decades behind bars.
Pawling resident Santos Vasquez Ramirez, 28, was sentenced to 21 years to life in state prison on Wednesday, Aug. 26, for the murder of 66-year-old Danbury cab driver Aurelio Orbez, Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy announced.

A passenger who feared for his life jumped from a vehicle as its driver fled police on a chase that went onto a Main Street sidewalk in Connecticut.
Daniel Carpenter, 60, of Plainfield, was arrested Monday, Aug. 24, and faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, in the wild chase, Middletown police said.
The incident began as a routine traffic stop on Main and Court streets in Middletown. As police approached Carpenter, he jumped the curb and began driving down the sidewalk, authorities said.
