Former CT Trooper Turned Local Officer Dies At 51; Community Rallies For Wife, Twin Sons
Andrew Dominic Borelli spent 20 years as a Connecticut state trooper before joining the Prospect Police Department. He devoted his life to protecting others. Now, after his unexpected death, the communities he served are supporting his family.
Borelli, of Cheshire, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, after a brief illness. He was 51. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their twin sons, Joseph and Sammy, according to his obituary.

Matthew Vining, 43, of Willimantic, was arrested and charged in the death of Michael Mitchell, 42, also of Willimantic, authorities announced Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Joshua Freitag, 33, of Somers, allegedly carried out the shooting Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, at a home on South Road, troopers said. He was charged with murder, home invasion, and two counts of risk of injury to a child. He was held on a $1.5 million bond.
