Troopers Seize 4 Kilos of Cocaine In I-84 Traffic Stop Connecticut State Troopers seized four kilos of cocaine following a motor vehicle stop Monday in Waterbury.Luiz Ortiz was charged with illegal sale of drugs and other offenses. He was held on $250,000 bond pending a court date in Waterbury. Troopers stopped a 2002 Dodge Durango around 6:45 p.m. on Interstate 84 when the driver was observed not wearing a seatbelt. The trooper also saw the vehicle swerve into the right shoulder over the fog line. Police stopped the vehicle at the Exit 25a Eastbound off-ramp. Study: Immigrants Boast 6th Biggest Economic Impact In Connecticut FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A WalletHub study found immigrants in Connecticut have the sixth largest impact on the economy among the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Immigrants had the largest influence in California, New Jersey and New York as the top three. Stamford Police Catch And Release Wayward Woodpecker STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Police Officers responded to a Unity Road home last week to take on a reported intruder in the basement of the house.The officers searched the residence and found the intruder to be a Northern Flicker woodpecker. Westport Snowboarder Picks Up 2 More Medals WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport’s Julia Marino picked up more snowboarding hardware over the weekend, winning two medals in FIS World Cup events in Canada. Marino won the gold medal in Slopestyle on Sunday at the 12th Annual Jamboree presented by Videotron Mobile, which took place in Stoneham, Quebec. State Police Mark Anniversary Of Trooper Killed On Merritt In Trumbull TRUMBULL, Conn. -- The Connecticut State Police is honoring an officer who was killed on the Merritt Parkway in Trumbull on Feb. 13, 1953.Trooper Ernest J. Morse, 31, of New Haven was on patrol on the Wilbur Cross Parkway in New Haven on the evening of Feb. 13, 1953. He spotted a car that was reported stolen in Massachusetts and pursued the vehicle onto the Merritt Parkway, and stopped the car in Trumbull.
