A 14-year-old Connecticut girl was hit and killed by a texting driver who had allegedly been swerving all over the roadway prompting 911 calls, according to police. Hartford County resident Jaylene Gonzalez of Enfield was hit by a pickup truck around 3:15 p.m., Sunday, March 6, as she walked along 150 North Road with her 12-year-old cousin in East Windsor. New Pedestrian Law To Take Effect In Connecticut: Here's What You Should Know
A new law expanding the circumstances under which drivers have to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians is set to take effect in Connecticut. Under the current law, drivers are required to yield to a pedestrian if the pedestrian has stepped off the curb into the crosswalk, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Dirt bikes that were intentionally modified to make them sound like gunshots going off were among several seized by police in Western Massachusetts during a recent crackdown. Norwalk Police are cautioning area residents to mind the rules of the road take it easy on the eggnog if they’re going to get behind the wheel. As the busy Memorial Day driving weekend begins, Norwalk Police Department issued this reminder about the distracted driving law: No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any highway while using a hand held mobile telephone to engage in a call or while using a mobile electronic device while such vehicle is in motion.
