The first ride is an 80-mile journey on Friday from Lakeville, Conn., to the Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport. Riders leave the Hunt Club on Saturday for rides of various lengths, including a 100-miler that is billed as “New England’s Toughest Century.” Riders can also choose distances of 10, 250, 50 or 75 miles.

Saturday’s ride starts at 8 a.m. Opening ceremonies begin at 7:35.

Motorists in Fairfield County are urged to be aware of cyclists throughout the day in Fairfield County, especially early in the morning. Westport and Fairfield are primary towns for the ride, but motorists can also expect to see cyclists in Weston, Easton and Redding.

Money raised from the Challenge provides money for programs for cancer survivors. The Center For Survivorship opened last year and is the nation’s only standalone facility dedicated exclusively for cancer patients.
