Study Skills Workshop At Joel Barlow

REDDING/EASTON, Conn. – Incoming and existing high school students who need help with study skill tips can enroll in the S4 Study Skills workshop Aug. 21-23 at Joel Barlow High School.

Successful Study Skills 4 Students, a Southport company, offers three, 2 1/2-hour interactive workshops that provide students with essential school skills, from note taking and time management to vocabulary improvement and test preparation.

The workshop is geared to incoming high school students and 10th- and 11th-graders who want to improve their study skills.

“The program gives students a pathway of how to study,” said Michelle Sagalyn, president of S4. “Many students are capable but without the pathway to be effective studiers they don’t work up to their potential. With this program, they feel relieved, because it’s clear cut what to do.”

The skills program is taught by certified master's degree teachers.

The workshops are interactive, giving students the opportunity to practice the skills. Homework is assigned, “because we want them to achieve as much fluency as possible,” Sagalyn said.

There will be 15 or less students in the class, “because we want to give each student attention and get to know them quickly,” she said.

The fee for the 7 1/2-hour workshop is $395. S4 will supply all materials, including a take-home folder with an outline of the workshop and other material for parental support.
