"Together, we have made an investment in Weston," Blechinger said. "Our schools are its most valuable asset. By voting for me, you are voting for a new perspective, fresh energy and change on the Board of Education."
She is the mother of young twins who attend Hurlbutt Elementary School.
"Financial discipline, coupled with creativity and innovation, is necessary to address our school’s budget in an environment of projected declining enrollment," she said in a statement. "I will safeguard our school’s independence in the midst of challenging regional and political pressures.
"I will promote rewarding academic programs, support interdisciplinary learning and be a champion for critical thinking for every student. I will support our hard-working teachers dedicated to student success no matter the goal and advance professional development."
She said it is important to support standards of excellence while looking at the long-term health of Weston.
"Home values, tax burdens and fiscal pressures must be part of our dialogue," she said.
Blechinger said she would be accessible and provide an open door policy with quarterly office hours to encourage transparency and discussion.
"I want to learn from you and with you." she said. "I will diligently and tirelessly ensure that our children are safe and thriving."
Blechinger said she was trained as an artist early on and has 20 years of financial and business experience.
The town's general election is Nov. 3.
