Westport Woman Found Asleep In Car Charged With DUI

WESTPORT, Conn. — A 54-year-old Westport woman was arrested Tuesday night, Jan. 28, and charged with drunken driving after police said she was found sleeping behind the wheel of her car.

Officers were called to the intersection of Hillspoint Road and Mimi Lane on a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway, according to the police report. When they arrived, Jill Mulligan, of Edgewater Commons, was found asleep at the wheel, the report said.

When officers woke Mulligan, they could smell alcohol on her, the arrest report said. Mulligan was asked to perform roadside sobriety tests, which she failed, police said.

In checking Mulligan’s Department of Motor Vehicle history, officers discovered she had three prior drunken driving charges against her, the report said. The search also revealed Mulligan had been ordered by the court to fit her vehicle with an ignition interlock device, which measures the driver’s blood-alcohol level. If the driver’s blood-alcohol level is higher than the state’s legal limit of .08, the device prevents the car’s engine from starting.

In addition to driving under the influence of alcohol, Mulligan was charged with not having an ignition interlock device. She was held on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Feb. 7.
