Bridgeport Man Arrested On Marijuana, DUI Charges After Westport Crash

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A 21-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on drunken driving and marijuana possession charges after crashing his car in Westport in the early morning hours on Friday, according to police.

Westport officers located a crash on Saugatuck Avenue near Ferry Lane at around 12:30 a.m. Friday. The operator of the at fault vehicle, Austin Cagle of Bridgeport, did not have a valid driver's license, according to police. Cagle's speech as also slurred and he appeared disoriented, police said.

He was having difficulty standing and was not listening to the officer's instructions, police said. He was given a field sobriety test, which he failed, and he was taken into custody, where police said he refused to submit to a breath test. During the processing, a pill container with a small amount of marijuana was also found in Cagle's possession, police said.

Cagle was charged with operating under the influence, possession of marijuana, operating without a license and following too close. Bond was set at $1,000 and he was given a court date of May 3.
